Stevie Wonder is preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his 1976 masterpiece Songs in the Key of Life with a special concert series. The legendary artist will perform the album in full across 18 shows in Europe and the United States.
A Masterpiece Returns to the Stage 50 Years Later
The tour, titled Songs in the Key of Life Performances – 50th Anniversary Tour, will begin in Birmingham on October 13, 2026. Shows in Paris, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Hanover, Cologne and Amsterdam will be followed by concerts in Dublin, London, Manchester and Glasgow.
The U.S. leg includes Madison Square Garden in New York, the United Center in Chicago, Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., and two nights in Stevie Wonder’s hometown of Detroit. The concert series is scheduled to conclude on December 19 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
From “Sir Duke” to “Isn’t She Lovely”
Songs in the Key of Life is widely regarded as one of the greatest commercial and artistic achievements of Stevie Wonder’s career. The album includes enduring songs such as “Sir Duke,” “I Wish,” “As,” “Pastime Paradise” and “Isn’t She Lovely.”
In addition to producing the album, Wonder wrote and arranged much of the material and played numerous instruments on the recordings. Musicians including Herbie Hancock, George Benson and Minnie Riperton also contributed to the project.
The album won Album of the Year at the 1977 Grammy Awards. After selling more than 10 million copies worldwide and earning diamond certification, it was also added to the U.S. Library of Congress National Recording Registry for its cultural and historical significance.
The Songs Still Feel Current
Half a century after the album’s release, its themes of love, solidarity, justice and social unity remain strikingly relevant. Wonder’s decision to perform the record in full makes the tour more than a nostalgic anniversary celebration.
Audiences will hear not only a collection of major hits, but also the larger story the album tells from beginning to end. The tour will also be Wonder’s first extensive concert series since the 2024 Sing Your Song! As We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart run.
Oldies Radyo’s take: Some albums remain memories of their era; others grow more meaningful as the years pass. Songs in the Key of Life belongs to the second group, continuing to speak about humanity, love and the hope for a better world. Hearing these songs again in Stevie Wonder’s own voice 50 years later is a reminder that music history is still very much alive.
