Alternative Rock / Shoegaze-Influenced Rock · 1990s Career
The Smashing Pumpkins became one of the decade’s most ambitious alternative bands through layered guitars, dramatic dynamics and Billy Corgan’s highly personal songwriting.
Siamese Dream
The 1993 album turned dense guitar overdubs, dreamlike textures and melodic songwriting into a major alternative-rock breakthrough.
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
The 1995 double album expanded the band’s scale dramatically, moving between heavy rock, orchestral ballads, electronic textures and gothic atmosphere.
Why they matter
The Smashing Pumpkins helped broaden alternative rock beyond grunge by embracing maximal studio production, romanticism and stylistic range.
