“Talk Talk” and “It’s My Life” established the band through electronic pop, Mark Hollis’s distinctive voice and tightly controlled songwriting.
Breaking away from pop formulas
The Colour of Spring broadened the sound, while Spirit of Eden moved toward long, quiet passages, improvisation and studio atmosphere.
Why they matter
Talk Talk became a crucial bridge from synth-pop into art rock, ambient experimentation and the later style often called post-rock.
