Hard Rock / Glam Metal / Arena Rock · 1980s Career
Def Leppard helped define the polished hard-rock sound of the 1980s through massive vocal layers, precise guitar production and songs engineered for both radio and arenas.
Pyromania
The 1983 album, produced by Mutt Lange, brought the band into the American mainstream through “Photograph,” “Rock of Ages” and a tightly controlled studio sound.
Resilience and Hysteria
After drummer Rick Allen lost an arm in a car accident, the band adapted its technology and continued. Hysteria became an enormous late-decade success with songs such as “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Love Bites.”
Why they matter
