Early ambition
The first albums mixed hard rock, fantasy imagery and progressive structure, but the band’s personality became clearer as studio layering and Mercury’s songwriting grew more confident.
“Bohemian Rhapsody”
The 1975 single combined ballad, operatic vocal sections and hard rock without a conventional chorus. Its success proved that radical structure could still become mainstream pop.
From art rock to stadium anthems
“Somebody to Love,” “We Will Rock You,” “We Are the Champions” and “Don’t Stop Me Now” showed the band moving between gospel influence, crowd participation and highly polished pop-rock.
